1 Yes Volunteers needed
One of our visually impaired archers is seeking a volunteer spotter! Unfortunately, his present spotter has just started an extended work period abroad and will not be able to help him for the foreseeable future. He is a very talented archer and our coaching team feel he has a chance of representing his country – maybe at a future Paralympics!
Are you able to help him at the field two or three times a week? It is very easy and we would give you some initial training, and even an archery beginner's course if you would like to try it yourself as well. You do not have to be a coach or even an archer to do this, our VI coach will teach you everything you need to know to be a spotter.
The work involves lining up the shooting frame and tactile sight with the target, then giving feedback to him on where the arrows have gone. He likes to go to the target after each end, and you would need to lend him an arm while he walks up.
Ideally, you would be able to collect Doug from his home in Bitterne and drop him back afterwards. Finally, he occasionally needs to go for special coaching sessions at Stoke Mandeville near Aylesbury and ideally, the spotter would accompany him on these visits. Needless to say, he will reimburse your fuel.
If you have some time to spare and would like to help this VI archer reach his potential, please get in touch with us! Thanks!
