The British Stone Skimming Championships

Lydbury North,
United Kingdom

50+ Yes Volunteers needed

We need people to register competitors, judge, record and organise the skimmers. Other volunteers can help run the alternative stone games. Before the event we need a fit (maybe younger) team to set up the lane on the lake, prepare the field and put up various marquees and tents. At the end of the day we need the same to help pack away. So the type of work ranges from sedate to active. Involvement can be for the a couple of weeks before the day or just for 5 hours on the day of competition.

About our club

The Stone Games and British Stone Skimming Championship is an annual fun afternoon held in aid of the RNLI. The first competition was held in 2008. The main event is stone skimming but there are lots of other challenges, all involving stones. Some favourites are Stone the Crows, Roll the Stone, Tabletop Curling, Stepping Stones and Balancing Stones. Each year we try to introduce a new event. It is a family occasion for people of all ages just having a bit of fun, but there is just enough competitiveness to attract some true athletes. This is shown by the current skimming records of 107 metres for the gentlemen and 49 metres for the ladies. There are also age categories for Under 12's, Under 16's and Over 65's. There is a throwing competition for the Under 5's. Refreshments are on sale but there are plenty of places on the field to set up picnics. Entry onto the field and parking is free.
