What is I Am Team GB?
I Am Team GB is inviting the Great British public to get out and get active on Saturday 27 August. We’re looking for thousands of clubs to open their doors to new participants and inspire the UK to take part in sport. Olympians, fresh from Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will be attending events across the nation, giving the public the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with Team GB.

Who is organising I Am Team GB?
I Am Team GB has been created by The National Lottery and ITV, working with The British Olympic Association (BOA) and UK Sport, supported by Join In.
Why is The National Lottery doing this?
The event offers a brilliant way of celebrating the support the public give Team GB’s athletes by playing The National Lottery.
No one contributes more to supporting our elite athletes than National Lottery players – with more than £80m contributed each year during the four-year build up to Rio. UK Sport, who distribute this funding, have ensured more than 1,300 athletes have benefitted from world-class support as they prepare for Rio 2016 and beyond.
In addition, The National Lottery has contributed more than £4bn to enable grassroots sports participation across the UK.
Why is ITV doing this?
ITV is the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster, creating some of the most watched, loved and talked about TV programmes. As a broadcaster, they recognise their privileged position – an ability to reach more than 40 million people a week – and they believe that their social purpose is to harness the influence of their shows for good. Whether that’s through mainstreaming an important topic, representing and encouraging inclusivity, raising millions for charity, or making their productions more sustainable.
That’s why ITV are joint organisers of this event. They want to use the scale of their network and much loved talent to encourage the nation to get out and get active on Saturday 27 August, giving everyone the opportunity to be happier and healthier.
Which sports organisations are involved?
The British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport, Sport England and Join In are all supporters of I Am Team GB.
Why 27 August?
I Am Team GB wanted to kick off the bank holiday with a celebration of Olympic and Paralympic sport and more. Saturday 27 August gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate the success of the Olympic Games and build on the nation’s enthusiasm as it turns its attention to the Paralympic Games and our ParalympicsGB athletes.
I Am Team GB will be an inclusive event and will celebrate participation across all sports and physical activity groups. Closer to 27 August, if you want to find a local accessible club, visit iamteamgb.com.
