The nation’s BIGGEST EVER sports day!

What. A. Day!

From the beach of Hope Cove in Devon to the Copper Box Arena in London, from astronaut Tim Peake in Houston to the riverside in Reading, and from the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow to Greg Rutherford’s backyard, Team GB athletes and thousands (and thousands) of the Great British public shouted ‘I Am Team GB!’

It all kicked off with ITV switching off all seven of it’s channels for an hour, asking the nation to get out and get active. Star of Rio 2016 Max Whitlock did the honours…

Suitably enough after such a successful Rio Games, London 2012 venue the Copper Box Arena then hosted Max, ITV’s Alesha Dixon, hockey medallist Christa Cullen and Lutalo Muhammad, amongst others.

Ricoh Arena in Coventry heaved with over 4,000 attendees getting involved and hoping to catch a glimpse of Rio medallists.

Dame Kelly Holmes, fresh from her parkrun along the Copoacabana in Rio, dropped into the Ricoh Arena with other Team GB stars.

Some athletes returned to where it all began…

…while others inspired the next generation…

…while some made it a family affair.

Coronation Street was grassed for the day of table tennis, climbing and more.

While Greg Rutherford lent his backyard out for future champions.

#IAmTeamGB was the top trend throughout the day on Twitter as the nation shared snaps of people getting active and lending a hand.

And even a certain astronaut got involved…

Finally, we turn back to Rio… bring on the Paralympics!
